Interview with Kristy
« on: Feb 13th, 2005, 12:37am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

We had the pleasure to interview Kristy Jensen from “The Amazing Race 6.” She tells us what Phil is really like, what she thought of Jonathan and Victoria, where the teams go once their eliminated, and much more! You may remember Kristy and her sister Lena from the hay challenge where they were unrolling hay for about nine hours, before Phil told them they had been eliminated.

Reality Reel: What made you want to apply for the race?

Kristy: It was kind of a trickle effect for me; I wasn’t the one who initially auditioned for the race, my sister did with my oldest brother. They made it through a couple of rounds of the interviews, and they loved Lena but didn’t really have the need for a male-female team. They then asked her if she knew any girl that she was herself around and was just as entertaining with. Lena mentioned me, so that is kind of how I sort of got thrown into the whole mix.

Reality Reel: So you weren’t in the audition tape then?

Kristy: No, actually I sent one in a couple seasons ago for Survivor, and so they already had a tape of me.

Reality Reel: What are your thoughts on Phil, and did you get to spend any time with him during or after the race?

Kristy: Yeah, at the pit stops when we were eating dinner Phil would show up and mingle with us. Also a couple of times we saw Phil up in first class when we were heading to the back of an airplane, hanging out and loving life.

Reality Reel: So he was on the same plane on you sometimes?

Kristy: Yeah a couple times we saw him on the plane, most of the time we didn’t see him. Phil was very likeable, he didn’t socialize a whole lot, and he kept his distance some of the time. Phil gave everyone their few minutes, as all the teams wanted to talk with him. He is very likeable and nice, much better looking in person. Phil is a cute guy.

Reality Reel: During the race, who is actually with you? Is their just a camera guy following you everywhere you go?

Kristy: We had a camera guy and sound guy following us.

Reality Reel: Did you prepare at all before the race?

Kristy: Yeah, I didn’t get as much time to prepare as the other teams, the other teams got several months to train and shop for the appropriate gear. I didn’t find out till about a month before the race started that we had been chosen. I had a month to work out and get in shape, and go shopping for everything I wanted to bring with me.

Reality Reel: What were your initial thoughts on the other teams?

Kristy: Lena and I, we liked to kind of made fun of everyone including ourselves, and we made up nicknames for everyone. You actually are not allowed to talk to anyone till the race starts, it was interesting to know everyone is making judgments about each other before you actually meet each other. We felt pretty confident about our chances after we saw everyone, we didn’t feel intimidated, and didn’t feel that their was a ton of competition.

Reality Reel: During the race was there anyone you got close to?

Kristy: We got close to Meredith and Maria, and we also got extremely close to Hayden and Aaron. We also teamed up with Freddy and Kendra, which wasn’t really our choice, but they were friends with Hayden and Aaron so we all ended up together. We pretty much got along with everyone, we really weren’t in the race long enough to really hate anyone, and of course Kris and Jon are always likeable.

Reality Reel: Jonathan and Victoria: what is your take on those two? Were they really as bad as it seemed at times?

Kristy: They named themselves “Team Hollywood”, which we thought was a good representation of what they were like. They dressed to impress, and Jonathan was loud, and dressed to stand out. Jonathan was a little obnoxious of course. We got to know Victoria better in Iceland, and she was very charming, I guess I thought she was going to be ditsy when I found out she was a Playboy bunny. Victoria was very nice and sweet, and I liked Jonathan much better when I met him outside of the race.

Reality Reel: What was your favorite place to visit?

Kristy: Iceland. I lived in Denmark before, had been to Sweden, and Norway is very similar. Those are all countries I have been before and I will probably get the chance to visit again. Iceland was different, and it is a place I don’t think I will have a chance to visit again, or if I do it won’t be for a long time. While we were driving in Iceland, the landscape kept changing; it was very surreal and very beautiful.

Reality Reel: How long were you actually out there with the hay?

Kristy: We were approaching 9 hrs. We got out there at about 1:00 pm and then Phil came out at about 10:00 pm to cut us off.

Reality Reel: What do you do after you are eliminated? Do you go home, or do you travel?

Kristy: After we are eliminated we are brought back to a different hotel where the rest of production and the camera crew were. We stayed there for a few days. Ever so many teams / legs of the race they will take a couple teams out to sequesterville. We were hoping we would be able to follow the rest of the teams to the different places, but we weren’t able to.

Reality Reel: When Freddy and Kendra crossed the finish line, how long was it actually before Kris and Jon arrived?

Kristy: Right after Freddy and Kendra started running, literally within 30 seconds or a minute later the train came, and Kris and Jon arrived. Otherwise it would have come down to a neck to neck race.

Reality Reel: Where is the one place you wish you could have gone on the race?

Kristy: I really wanted to go to some of the East Asian and African countries; I was hoping to visit a culture that was a lot different than American culture. It seemed culture shock was in places like Ethiopia, I was kind of bummed out about that.

Reality Reel: Are you in contact with any of the other teams, or racers from other seasons?
Kristy: We actually all mass e-mail each other and keep in touch. Every week or two, someone will send out a general e-mail about what they have been up to, and pictures, and whatever. We have actually hung out with and are close to Meredith and Maria, Hayden and Aaron, and I still talk to Rebecaa. We are pretty much in touch with everyone.

Reality Reel: What is next for you in life? Would you do the race again?

Kristy: Yeah, well Lena and I think they should do a second chance Amazing Race. If they would do that, we would love to come back, I think our time was a little short lived, and we had at least a few more legs in us. I would have liked to have gone to more of a culture shock country.

Reality Reel: Did you have any comments about Rob and Amber being on the next Amazing Race?

Kristy: I wish them the best, for the viewers it must be a little frustrating because they already won their show, but I am sure they will make for entertaining television. Everyone knows Boston Rob and Amber, and I think the viewers are still a little upset they are on the next season.

This interview took place on February 10th, 2005. Because it has been transcribed from a phone conversation Christopher Book, and Kristy had, the answers and questions displayed above may differ slightly from what was actually said.
********************************
KJ were 30 seconds behind, but still it would not have been possible to catch up.  Cry

I seems to me everyone likes Jonathan only when they know him after the race.

That one was nice. I'd love to see them do the All-Star if there is. But since TAR8 consists of families, I'm seeing no All-star in the near future.  Grin
