Ousted racers remain tight-lipped

By TARA MERRIN -- Calgary Sun

Debbie Cloyed and Bianca Smith are keeping quiet. Despite several spoilers revealing the identity of The Amazing Race's winners swirling on the Internet, last week's eliminated team is not confirming who took home the $1 million prize.

"All the teams had what it took to win. They were all really competitive, so it really came down to luck," says Debbie, a 25-year-old photographer.

Bianca, 26, agrees some teams did seem to have the Midas touch -- a trait her and Debbie sometimes lacked.

Despite establishing themselves as strong competitors by winning the first leg of Race, the girls were sent home in the third episode after getting lost trying to find the Andes mountains. They drove more than two hours in the wrong direction, sealing their fate.

"Debbie and I are both smart girls, but we suck at directions. We knew that would be our weakness," says Bianca, a high school teacher.

They may have known they would get lost, but the one thing the women did not count on was Amber Brkich and Rob Mariano. The winner and runner-up of Survivor All Stars proved to be just as conniving on The Amazing Race as they had been on Survivor.

On last week's episode, Rob and Amber were shown stealing Bianca and Debbie's taxi while they were inside a hotel asking for directions. The ladies, however, suspect there may have been more the cameras missed.

"Somebody may have told the concierge to give us the wrong directions. It may have been the same somebody who stole our cab," Bianca says.

Regardless of what, or who, led to their elimination, they women say there are no hard feelings.

"Rob has really grown on me. One of my favourite moments on the show so far is when he said I was tough because I ate all the meat," says Debbie, who downed four pounds of beef product in record time and then ran to the pit-stop only to be sent home. "It's validating to watch the show and see that Rob was really doing the things we suspected he was doing. He's good TV."

Although their time on the Race was short, the lifelong friends from Virginia faced several personal challenges.

Among the toughest was a seemingly easy white-water rafting trip in Puente Viejo, Argentina.

While rafting last summer, Debbie was almost killed when she was tossed into the rapids and pinned under a rock beneath the water.

"I blacked out for over a minute, but somehow I survived. I guess that's why we decided to do the rafting -- I didn't want to go through my life having any fears."

Although their hopes of becoming the first all-female team to win The Amazing Race have been dashed, Debbie and Bianca, who are both well travelled and fluent in Spanish, are pleased with how they represented the fairer sex on the show.

"It would have been better if we had won, but I am happy with how we were portrayed. I think we came across as very strong women," says Debbie.

The affectionate duo, who express their love for each other with kisses, are surprised, however, by the constant buzz they are gay.

"It has turned into the big lesbian mystery," says Debbie, adding the rumours are false. "We both grew up in loving families and that is how we express ourselves. I just wish all people could have that same kind of friendship."

With their 15 minutes of fame almost behind them, Bianca and Debbie have pitched an idea for a new travel show to several networks and are planning to move to Argentina.

"Want to go back and learn to tango," says Bianca.

It was never said that Rob definately told the hotel concierge to give them the wrong directions. It was just speculation, but I agree, even though I love Romber, that would have been a little much.

You can do anything you want so long as CBS does not prohibit it.

But Rob was standing outside of the hotel. How can he bribe the concierge?
He has to walk into the hotel. Talk to the concierge and then bribe him.

Well I'm assuming Rob and Amber before leaving the hotel told the concierge that if anyone were to ask him about directions, to tell them the wrong way...then Rob and Amber left

Debbie and Bianca entered after they left...
makes sense
it is wrong soo wrong..but im glad Debbie is not against him and that she thought it was cool he called her a "tough chick" LOL Cool

But there're so many hotels in that area. How can Rob knows in advance that DeBianca will walk to that particular hotel and bribe the concierge.     Lips Sealed

i think that maybe rob did bribe the concierge. i mean, debbie/bianca got SOOO lost even after asking for directions?!! that would never have happened if they were given correct directions. don't you think?

YES. AGREEANCE.

The simplest answer is most probably the truth. Rob and Amber DID NOT bribe the concierge (what ever that is).

Well, how bad is that? You are doing perfectly good.  You go to a hotel to ask for directions... You write it and believe that it's so true. You do not sleep and just patiently wait.(Obviously Romber did. They were still yawning when they went out) Whoala! The man was payed by one devious racer. There is a huge possibility that Rob the Rober payed the man (before they took a nap) to give wrong directions.. Why? Because he is soooooooo smart!  Angry
