It's back to basics for 9th season of the Race

The release of forms for the ninth season of The Amazing Race have quashed online buzz that it will be an "all-star" season. It also hinted at a return to two-person teams — the eighth season, expected to air by year's end, will feature family teams of four.

The eligibility requirements listed on the show's website states that "each applicant must have a team-mate in order to participate on the programme".

The requirements also state participants "must be willing to travel to numerous locations around the world … starting sometime in or around November 2005," indicating the race period.

Till then, fans who miss the show's frenetic action can catch the encore telecast of The Amazing Race 6 at 10pm on Tuesdays on AXN (StarHub Cable Ch 19).

Meanwhile, Rob and Amber aren't the only contestants from The Amazing Race 7 getting hitched. Boyfriends Lynn Warren and Alex Ali will wed in Ottawa, Canada on June 1. Their wedding will be broadcast live on radio — believed to be a world first.

The executive assistants have been together for four years, and the entire wedding will be taken care of by The New Hot 89.9 FM. The pair had to travel up north as the union of gay couples is not allowed in their native California.

And, unlike Rob and Amber, who reportedly only invited one team from this season's Race to their April 16 wedding in Bahamas, Warren and Ali are inviting all contestants from this season's Race, "Romber" included.

"We're bigger people, so we invited them to our wedding even though they didn't invite us to theirs. We don't really expect them to show up," Ali told the Ottawa Sun.

The newspaper reported that so far, retirees Meredith and Gretchen Smith, winners Uchenna and Joyce Agu and the mother-son team of Susan and Patrick Vaughn have confirmed their attendance. Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan and actress Rosie O'Donnell are also expected to turn up. —TODAY/yh
