TAR8 Recap - Episode 1

The Amazing Race:   ......wait, :? The Amazing Race: Family Edition.

Yes, this season didn't feature the regular 11 teams of 2, but rather 10 teams of 4.

Would it make the race boring? Would the tasks be easier?

To find out, you had to watch the premiere of..........

The Amazing Race: Family Edition

As we see the teams race in by speedboat in the New York Harbor, mixed emotions are expressed by the 40 new racers.

Some are overconfident, while others are nervous.

Phil: Welcome to New York City. You are about to embark on a race around the world. Along the way, you will encounter a series of tasks. Some will be mental, while others will be physical. When I give you the word, you will run over, and grab your bags. There is an envelope on top on them with a small amount of money and your first clue. Once you do that, you will race to the black GMC's waiting over there, and whatever you do after that, is completely up to you. Any questions? Alright. Travel safely.....(the teams get ready to run)........the world is waiting for you.........(all look anxious)...............................................GO!

All of the teams race to their bags. Renee and Brock Rogers take a terrible fall, but easily recover. The teams rip open their clues.

"Drive yourselves to Eastern Mountain Sports in Soho and get the following equipment:
• 4 sleeping bags
• 4 camping bags
• 1 tent"

They hop in their GMC's and take off for the camping store in Soho. The Gaghan's take an early lead.

The Linz's arrive first, with the Gaghan's right behind. They check out at the register and receive their next clue.

"Get a frank on East 91st."

The other eight teams arrive quickly too, except for one.

"Shut up mom!"……….the Paolo's
Eventually they arrive, but a TON of arguing occurred in the process. Roll Eyes

The Linz's arrive first at the hot dog stand too, where Kevin and Drew from season 1 awaited with their next clue.

"Drive yourselves 97 miles to Washington Crossing Historical Park in Pennsylvania."

The Gaghan's, Godlewski's, and Linz's quickly became lost. Meanwhile, the Aiello's, Bransen's, Roger's, and Weaver's all found maps and arrived easily.

The Aiello's arrived first and tore open their next clue.

"Choose a rowboat and cross the Delaware River into New Jersey and retrieve a historical flag on the other side. Row back and watch a traditional flag folding ceremony."

The Aiello's rowed across the river, with the Bransen's right behind. They retrieved their next clue.

"Drive 34 miles to Philadelphia and find Belmont Plateau. Pitch your tent as quickly as possible to receive one of the following departure times:
• 10 AM
• 10:30 AM
• 11 AM"

Six teams-the Aiello's, Bransen's, Gaghan's, Schroeder's, Weaver's, and Roger's-remained at the head of the pack, as the Black, Linz, Godlewski, and Paolo families struggled to find the river.

The Aiello's, Weaver's, and Gaghan's arrived at the park first, and pitched their tents first, therefore letting them depart at 10 AM the next day. The Bransen's, Roger's, and Schroeder's arrived later, earning them a 10:30 departure time. The Black's, Godlewski's, Linz's, and Paolo's (who had to go back to get a clue they dropped) all earned an 11 AM departure time.

The three leading teams found out the next morning that they were to drive 92 miles to Mount Joy, Pennsylvania and find the Brubaker Family Farm. The Weaver's arrived first, and found out that they had to do their first detour…

"Build It or Buggy It"

In Build It, teams had to construct a miniature working windmill. While not physically demanding, proper assembly could take a long time. In Buggy It, Teams had to transport a traditional Amish buggy along a 1.5-mile course with two team members riding in it. While physically demanding, Teams with enough muscle could finish quickly.

The Weaver's, Aiello's, Gaghan's, and Linz's opted for Buggy It, while the other families opted for Build It. Along the way, Linda Weaver was run over by their buggy as she was pulling it down a hill. They chose to go back and do the Build It task.

As the Aiello's strained to push on, the Gaghan parents effortlessly pushed past them, with Billy and Carissa singing, "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain"

The Weaver's finished assembling their windmill first, earning them the next clue.

"Drive yourselves to the pit stop, 17 miles away on the Rohrer Family Farm on Blue Rock Road in Lancaster, Pennsylvania."

The Godlewski sisters arrived first, earning them $20,000. Soon after, the Weaver's and Gaghan's sprinted in a footrace, with the Gaghan family claiming second. The Roger's arrived in fourth, and the Schroeder's in fifth. The Paolo's finished in a surprising sixth place, but not without tears. In tears, Marion said, "You guys are embarrassing me. What a family." The Bransen's arrived in seventh, and the Aiello's in eighth.

With the Linz and Black families finishing within seconds of each other, it became a true race. The Linz family arrived in ninth. Arriving in last, being eliminated, Reggie Black remarked, "Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't, but as long as you give your best effort, you can feel like I'm feeling right now. I'm very proud of my family." Kimberly Black added, "The race has given us the opportunity to see our boys really step out…and show us they're not babies anymore." Reggie ended by saying, "The race was an opportunity of a lifetime. It was the type of experience I wouldn't want to give up for anything."

Good recap TAR_4_Life.  The fact you got wrong though was the Paolo's never went back to get the clue they dropped.

Hmmm.  Watching the show, it seemed like they didn't go back to get it.  The son was I know where to go or something.  He repeated the clue word for word, and they said they weren't going to go back to get it.  Who knowsHuh
