Here's the weekly article featuring Jonathan on last week's episode.  Pretty interesting!

There are a lot of things troubling me about this third episode of the The Amazing Race: Family Edition; and the Aiello family, and the circumstances that stalked them throughout, had much to do with it. It appears that after a temporary setback last week — wandering zombie-like for two hours looking for a Cluebox around the wrong "Reflecting Pool" — the Gaghans have returned to form; mom and dad and young kids congealing into a renewed, ramped-up fighting force. In the dark, fuggy corner left by the Gaghans — the now vacant dunce-spot — the Aiello clan had, as events suggest, hurriedly moved in, flung themselves down, and wouldn't budge. For this, and their somewhat awkward elimination, I am still scratching my head.....

I read most of the article - the bit about TAR becoming a scavenger hunt is being reflected more in this season due to the fact that you have kids invovled.  This was a dumb idea if they want to keep viewers.  I'm sure they thought the "family" angle would be fun... and it might have been if they'd done all families with kids and kept it short.. maybe a "summer short season" or something when kids were out of school and would have watched and enjoyed.  The places they've visited tend to be "historical" in nature, and would have been a great start of conversations (hopefully) between parents and kids about some sites in the US.  I can totally understand not taking kids around the world - all sorts of issues there... the least of which would be jet lag from zipping around the world in such a short time.. they'd collapse.

The family angle might also have worked if they'd used families like the Aiellos, Linzes, Bransens - where you have all adults - and done the world wide game with four instead of two (twice the fun, twice the arguing).

As it is, as Jonathan said, it has turned into a scavenger hunt with little of the excitement we've come to enjoy with TAR.

As for the centrifuge - while it was a lame competition, I can see why they put it in with the kids.. this is something they could participate in... and they're going to have to do things like that when they have 8 and 12 year olds on the show.  Personally, had I been the Gaghans, I'd have put BOTH kids in that roadblock... that is something cool that they will most likely never have the opportunity to do again.. dad was selfish!

There are only 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary, and those who don't.
