The Amazing Race's
10 Most Memorable Moments

As the reality hit airs its 100th episode, we look back at the roughest roads, sneakiest strategies, and craziest challenges.

By: Craig Tomashoff

10. Best Side Trip

Danny and Oswald going on a Hong Kong shopping spree during Season 2. Even though the other teams stressed about getting to the airport, these friends followed their strategy of asking a travel agency to book their flight, leaving them with enough time to shop for cologne.

9. Saddest Moment

Watching the faces of Race's youngest competitors, like Carissa, 9, when their families were eliminated this season. "You're telling a kid he's lost, and he thinks he's not good enough," says Keoghan.

8. Sneakiest Maneuver

Rob taking the four-hour penalty to avoid eating four pounds of icky-looking meat in Season 7. By convincing two other teams to join him, he saved his stomach and his place in the race. Recalls Keoghan: "What I loved is he used [his brain] to manipulate the situation."

7. Most Frustrating Challenge

Searching for a clue in a giant bale of hay in a Swedish field during Season 6. The challenge was too much for sisters Lena and Kristy, who struggled so long to find the clue that Keoghan had to come tot he hay field to eliminate them. "If Phil hadn't shown up, we might still be out there," Lena says.

6. Most Dramatic Sacrifice

Joyce getting her head shaved in India in Season 7. "As the hair came off, an internal transformation happened," she says. "I felt liberated. Later we learned that when a woman shaves her head, it's good karma. Maybe that was the key to our success." They won the race.

5. Best Line of Dialogue

Kevin yelling, "Swing, you fat bastard, swing!" to Drew as his teammate hung on a zip line over a gorge near Victoria Falls, in Season 1. "Watching him hang seemed so funny to me," says Kevin. "People still yell that phrase to us. It's become a term of endearment."

4. Oddest Mode of Transportation

The bubble-like "zorbs" in Season 5, which teams used to travel down a hill in New Zealand. "I did the guinea pig test of them," says Keoghan. "It was the closest thing to what you imagine floating on a cloud would feel like."

3. Most Disgusting Meal

The live octopus entree in South Korea during Season 4. As the main course wiggled, contestants (like Reichen, above) had to swallow it. Keoghan reminded the teams that "for the locals, it's a delicacy. It's no different than us loving a hamburger." Except that hamburgers don't walk off your plate.

2. Dumbest Mistake

Four of eight teams putting regular gas into their diesel cars in Portugal in Season 3. By ignoring all the signs calling for diesel, the teams proved Keoghan's point that racers "stop thinking about basic things when they rush."

1. Gutsiest Performance

Little person Charla racing with a 55-pound hunk of meat on her back in Season 5. "She was the smallest person with the biggest heart," says Race host Phil Keoghan. "If you look at that, everybody was saying she couldn't do it, and she's probably heard that all her life. But she knew she could do that challenge and she did."

I would consider every time they return to the US as a visit.. so every leg has gone to the US since every leg finishes in the US, so they have visited the US 8 times

I have an idea, why don't we make our own '10 Most Memorable Moments'? Someone will supply the category and the nominees, and people can supply with their votes. Majority wins.

D... Lena and Kristy could have gone a long way, imo, if not for the stupid hay bales.
