RECAP: Episode 11
« on: May 16th, 2006, 7:04am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

The time was 1:13 a.m. when Ray and Yolanda read the clue:

Quote:
Fly to Bangkok, Thailand, take a bus to the city of Lopburi, and find the Three Spire Pagoda, a Buddhist temple home to hundreds of monkeys that are considered sacred.

And they left.

Seven minutes later, the frats, MoJo, and the hippies left one by one one minute apart, even though they arrived at the mat mere seconds from each other.

At the start of this leg of the race, the hippies were broke and only had one pair of pants between them. It was Tyler wearing the pants in the relationship. Mercifully, Yolanda had left BJ a pair of pants she no longer needed. Yes, the pants whistled at by Brazilian men.

Oh, and the frats also left flip-flops for the also footwear-deficient hippie.

MoJo left zilch. Bad MoJo, Bad.

Everyone headed to the nearest airport, in the city of Darwin. And everyone but the penniless hippies secured the same flight route to Bangkok, via Sydney, that will arrive there 11:00 p.m.

The hippies [wrongly] decided to earn some money first. After some begging and some stripping, they collected enough money, board shorts, and shoes. But when they got to the airport, the flight route arriving 11:00 p.m. in Bangkok was fully booked. Aw.

Not to worry! One commercial break later, another flight opened up AND it was scheduled to arrive 15 minutes earlier than the other one! In the end, the flight plan was:

The hippies’ advantage was lost when the supposed 11:00 p.m. flight arrived at 10:15 p.m.

The three leading teams went to Mo Chit Bus Terminal. The frats, Ray, and Yolanda got on the midnight bus to Lopburi. MoJo did not. A Thai guy told it that the first bus to leave would leave at 4:50 the next morning.

And so, MoJo went to a hotel.

The hippies arrived in Bangkok. They went to the bus terminal and slept there.

It turned out that there was a 4:20 a.m. bus. The hippies got on it.

MoJo arrived later and got on the 5:20 a.m. They, in effect, missed two busses.

Ha-ha!

The Three Spire Pagoda (Phra Prang Sam Yot in Thai) opened at 8:00 a.m. so the frats, Ray, Yolanda, and the hippies got bunched up.

While waiting, the frats mingled with their kind but Ray and Yolanda stayed away from the monkeys sacred.

The temple finally opened with no MoJo in sight.

There was a Fast Forward. It read:

Quote:
Travel by taxi to a nearby restaurant and take part in a favorite after-school activity in Thailand.

The hippies, Ray, and Yolanda went for the Fast Forward. (The frats couldn’t even if they wanted)

At the restaurant, they found that they had to eat a bowlful each of stir-fried crickets and grasshoppers. After one bite, Ray and Yolanda left.

Meanwhile, Eric was doing the Roadblock.

Quote:
Prepare a ceremonial feast for the sacred monkeys that inhabit the shrine much like the locals do during an annual festival. After completing the feast, present it to the monkeys to earn your next clue.

MoJo arrived. Jo did the Roadblock. Ray and Yolanda got back. Yolanda did the Roadblock.

The monkeys sacred made it hard for all three, taking the fruits and veggies before the whole presentation was done.

Eventually, everyone finished the Roadblock, in the order they started.

---

The crickets and the grasshoppers were getting cold. And the hippies seemed to be making no progress. Tyler thought of quitting but BJ would not have it. They ate on. They puked on. They finished. They could now skip all tasks and go directly to the Pit Stop for this leg of the race, the Marble Temple (Wat Benchamabopit Dusitwanaram in Thai).

Hippies are number one!

---

The three other teams were now tasked to:

Quote:
Travel by taxi to the Chao Phraya River, take a ferry to Koh Kret, and find the Buddha Garden, a local meditation center.

MoJo got a little lost in the island thus they were passed by Ray and Yolanda acquiring the next race clue, a Detour:

Quote:
Move It: Make your way on foot to a pottery factory and transport 72 clay pots through the winding, narrow streets of the market to a boat docked on the river using the traditional Thai method of carrying the pots on wooden boards balanced on your shoulders.

Altar It: Make your way on foot to a nearby temple and create a shrine to Buddha by assembling the shrine and then gold leaf a statue of Buddha.

The frats, Ray, and Yolanda chose Altar It. MoJo also chose Altar It but when it arrived at the temple, the other teams have already started so it switched detours. It was almost a good move.

MoJo started the Move It detour. Its first trip went along well, but the pots weren’t enough and the way was long. And the frats just finished gold-leafing.

It went for a second trip and it seemed to have gotten the hang of carrying pots in a plank but NO, Mo dropped all but two of her pots, and her composure.

One more trip MoJo had to take and during this one, Ray and Yolanda finished their Detour.

The three trailing teams rode on different ferries. The frats had a little difficulty hailing a taxi. Ray, Yolanda, and MoJo did not. MoJo even got a fast driver.

But in the end, the frats came in second, Ray and Yolanda came in third and MoJo arrived last.

It was eliminated. *evil cackle*

lol, it's just that 'MoJo' isn't a person, it's a team name. so i thought "it" would be best.

like, for example: team guido really screwed up this time. and so it finally got eliminated.

---

thanks a lot guys!

yep, i'll post pics of me and the marble temple (hopefully we go there).
