Lance Bass of 'N Sync: I'm gay

Lance Bass, one of five members of the multimillion recordselling pop group 'N Sync, has come out as gay. In a story published Wednesday on People magazine's Web site, the singer and aspiring astronaut said he and Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl are in a "very stable" relationship.

Media and blog coverage of Bass and Lehmkuhl's dating life had reached the mainstream in recent days, including the New York Post's Page Six. That "tipping point" apparently prompted the singer's tell-all. "The main reason I wanted to speak my mind was that [the rumors] really were starting to affect my daily life," Bass told People. "Now it feels like it's on my terms."

In recent weeks gay blogger Mario Lavandeira, who calls himself Perez Hilton, had even lifted paparazzi photos that he said showed Bass, 27, and Lehmkuhl, 32, wearing one another's clothing.

In the excerpts from the People interview posted onlinethe full story will appear in the magazine's print edition on sale on FridayBass says he hid his sexuality and declined even to act on it because he feared disclosure would hamper 'N Sync's success and thus harm the group's other four members. "I had four other guys' careers in my hand," said Bass, "and I knew that if I ever acted on [my sexuality] or even said [it], it would overpower everything."

"He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone," fellow 'N Sync member Joey Fatone, 29, told People. "I back him up 100%."

'N Sync has not recorded or appeared as a group since 2002. That year Bass famously negotiated with the Russian space agency to buy passage on a space flight to the international space stationa deal that fell through when the Russians pulled out. Bass now produces television and film projects; he and Fatone are developing an Odd Couplelike sitcom in which Bass's character would be gay, Bass told People.

"The thing is, Im not ashamed," said Bass, who had already come out to band mates, friends, and what People termed "his shocked family." "Thats the one thing I want to say.... I'm more liberated and happy than Ive been my whole life. I'm just happy." (The Advocate)

tho i was suspiscious for a while.............anyway, kudos to them, at least lance isn't as bad tempered as reichen's ex, chip...........................

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel, he mentioned that
"Lance Bass has come out of the closet & fell
right into a dream"! Then a picture was shown of Reichen in a speedo! What a handsome guy!!!

I wish them well & a long life together if this is their desire.

Also, I respect the fact that Reichen's Mom is a member here
& trust that all of you will do the same!

They all are meeting in Florida with Lakelady, Reichen & his Mom & Dad!

Lance Bass' boyfriend, reality star Reichen Lehmkuhl, says he supports the former 'N Sync star's decision to reveal that he is gay.

"I will say that Lance is happier than he has ever been," Lehmkuhl, winner of season four of CBS' "Amazing Race," tells "Access Hollywood" in an interview that was to air Friday.

"It has been a long ride and it's a huge relief, and I couldn't be happier for him and I couldn't be more proud of him," Lehmkuhl, 32, says.

Earlier this week, Bass, 27, told People magazine he had decided to "speak my mind" because rumors about his sexuality were starting to affect his daily life. The singer also said he is in a "very stable" relationship with Lehmkuhl.

Bass, who formed 'N Sync with Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, said he didn't earlier disclose that he is gay for fear of affecting the group's popularity.

'N Sync, known for a string of hits including "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me," went on hiatus in 2002. Bass made headlines that year for undertaking astronaut training and failing to raise money for a trip into space.

Fatone and Timberlake have said they support their former bandmate.

"Lance is one of my great friends," Timberlake said in a statement issued by his representative, Ken Sunshine. "I support him and wish him all the happiness in the world."

Lehmkuhl tells "Access Hollywood" that Bass' sexuality will not affect his career. "No, not at all," he says. "I think it is always best in your career to be honest.

"He is going to have more support and more happiness and more freedom than he has ever had before and it is going to be a liberating experience. I guarantee it."

i actually saw pix of reichen and lance in perezhilton.com a couple of weeks or maybe months ago. perez insinuated that they were exchanging clothes.

i thought of posting the pix here but i decided not to. oh well, it's been proven true now.

For me the best thing in all this (other than the fact that two people I hold highly have found love) is that Reichen has been appearing all over the place: Access Hollywood, ET, and the rest of their ilk. Reichen Exposure - that's what its all about!!!

Lance Bass got the order wrong. It's supposed to be "over and out," not "out and over."

As it is, the onetime 'N Sync member has split with former Amazing Race contestant Reichen Lehmkuhl less than five months after copping to the coupling, a publicist for the reality star confirmed today to E! News.

It's unclear exactly how long the camera-ready twosome were together, but the duo first revealed their relationship back in July, when Bass came out to People magazine, retroactively breaking teenage hearts and silencing increasingly noisy Internet chatter questioning his sexual orientation.

At the time, the 27-year-old former boy-bander said he and Lehmkuhl had been involved for "several" months, saying they met when Bass hired Lehmkuhl as a real estate agent.

In the short time since his coming out, Bass has attended countless soirees, premieres and benefits with Lehmkuhl by his side, and vice versa, with the duo recently making the rounds to celebrate the release of the 32-year-old Amazing Racer's memoir, Here's What We'll Say: Growing Up, Coming Out, and the U.S. Air Force Academy, in which he describes his experience of being out in the service.

Almost as long as they were publicly together, they were dogged with reports their relationship was on the rocks.

Back in August, Bass first spoke up against the speculation, stating the couple were "very happy." The rumors resurfaced late last week, when Bass was spotted partying without Lehmkuhl Friday at Pure Nightclub in Las Vegas.

Bass was the first of several celebrities to come out in recent months, with Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight and erstwhile Doogie Howser practitioner Neil Patrick Harris both since confirming they were gay.

In the meantime, while Lehmkuhl has his book launch to fall back on in the aftermath of the split, Bass, too, has some work to tend to.

The pop star has long been developing a faux-reality sitcom pilot based on The Odd Couple, alongside former band mate Joey Fatone. In the series, which has yet to be picked up by a network, Bass' character will be openly gay.
