Survivor Brian Corridan regarding Jeff Probst

Recently I asked Guatemala's Brian Corridan thoughts on why Jeff Probst seemed kind of down about the Guatemala cast... "I saw the transcript of his teleconference, and I was pretty disappointed by his assessment of Guatemala. I think several things played into it. For one thing, I think Jeff gets very affected by his surroundings. I think the weather, the heat, the bugs, the humidity, and the lack of water all had a major impact on his experience. It wasn't the Club Med surroundings he had been used to during the two years he had spent on Seasons 7-10. But I think he was even more affected by the confrontational nature of many of our contestants (Judd and Jamie in particular). Jeff is an odd bird in that he really loves people who try to play a moral game, even when they make for terrible TV. Our season was conflict-laden (Brianna vs Lydia, Margaret vs Judd, Jamie vs everyone, Lydia vs Steph, Gary vs Cindy), which generally makes for an interesting season, but clearly takes a toll on Jeff. It bothers him when people are so "feisty," as he put it. He also claimed that no one our season had any fun, which is just untrue, because I had a blast the entire time I was out there, and I was so excited to get to play Survivor. Finally, I think Guatemala represented a major crossroads in Jeff's life, as his career path (or rather, his contract with Survivor) was uncertain. I think that all three of those things pooled together to put a negative spin on Jeff's time in Guatemala. We as contestants could see that pretty clearly a lot of the time. He didn't smile much, he took things very seriously, and he would complain about heat and such during challenges. He would also browbeat Lydia all the time ("Why are you still here?" "Look at your little legs!"), and Judd launched into him while he was on the jury one Tribal Council, so his relationship with some contestants wasn't that great. I don't know, I personally like Jeff a lot, and I have a lot of respect for him, but it saddens me that he couldn't enjoy Guatemala as much as I did. I'm glad he got back into his groove with Panama." Thanks for your input Brian!
