Here's what Wanda sent us this week... Five Favorites from Episode 10: 1. Compassion coming through: Courtney comforting Bruce, Shane carrying the stretcher, Terry and others paying tribute to the warrior who had become their friend and earned their respect. We saw good parts of Courtney and Shane in the crisis, and it reminds us that even people who are generally annoying or obnoxious have soft sides and warm hearts that come through when it's time to care for a fellow human being. 2. Cirie winning a great reward challenge -- one that focused on knowing people instead of on physical prowess this time. Cirie has the most endearing way of looking at her tribemates with a smile of amusement and a motherly chuckle! She always seems to be enjoying herself, and we love seeing that. She's a great observer, a people-watcher par excellence! 3. Cirie choosing Aras and Danielle to share the reward with her, rather than Shane and Courtney, who vie for "most annoying." We know a person's character by his/her choice of friends. It is unfortunate that the necessities of the game required Cirie to banish Terry, but she had to do that, and her choices for reward partners were for the better Casayans. Water seeks its own level. Nuff said. I was proud of her for not letting the pressure Shane put on her overrule her preferences. 4. Choice of chicken, fish, beef, or pork chops for the reward meal! I probably eat more peanut butter than the average person, but I don't find it on the menu at fine restaurants, and I like to see Survivor rewards that are more like a treat at the end of a long backpacking trip than something I could dredge out of the backpack for a meal I'd enjoy along the trail. (Yeah, I knew the defenders of PJ sandwiches would stand up for the best meal in the woods, and I appreciate that!) 5. Great little moments of editing excellence. Two stood out this week. One was a groan from poor Bruce, agonizing in the shelter, followed immediately by a cut to a groan from Danielle, getting a massage at the reward challenge. Brilliant piece of editing; neat little juxtaposition. Another was someone making some allusion to flies and the editor cutting to a great shot of flies crawling on some food source. The editing of Survivor footage never gets enough applause. Those guys/gals are fantastic! As for the progress of the game... It was certainly sad to see Bruce leave in pain. There's no doubt that he endured more than most people could possible take, and he was brave and quiet in his agony. Besides the physical pain, it will undoubtedly plague him forever to know that he had a 1 in 7 shot at the million, and he will ever know how far he might have gotten if fate had not intervened to take him out at 7. Of all the systems in the body, the digestive system takes the worst beating in Survivors, as we saw earlier with Nick and Aras, whose systems revolted in a different manner. The recovery of the stomach and intestines is always a concern as each person leaves the game and goes back to normal eating patterns, with "The Ponderosa" (AKA Loser Lodge) always equipped with a variety of OTC aids for whatever ways people's bodies respond. We as viewers were deprived of the usual whispered conversations and strategizing that culminates in the Tribal Council that climaxes each week's show. With LaMina finally eradicated except for "Immunity Man, we were finally going to get to see how Casaya would sort out each other's fates, and now we have to wait another week for that intrigue. To use a favorite word coined by one of my foreign exchange students, "SCHPUCKS!" Projections on the Final Six.... Terry will still be the target any time he doesn't have immunity. At this point he is definitely in the Final Five, has a very high probability of Final Four, and could easily be one of the Final Two. I would love to see that happen; would love to see the Casaya jury deliberate on this champ who has conquered the elements of Exile Island and has a right to his self-confident style that the jealous regard as "cocky." Terry deserves respect. I like to see character and strength win, and Terry has played "the game" hard as well, employing every strategic maneuver possible to break into the Cassaya lock-out. Shane and Courtney are alike in their weakness and insecurities, their anger at not being liked, chosen, and selected for rewards, and their behaviors that alternately kindle our ire and our pity. Both would make great F-2 candidates; anybody would want to take either to the end. Cirie's not likely to win another challenge, and she's too dear either to vote out or to take to F-2, so she's my pick for F-3. Aras is a physical threat that Shane and the rest would like to eliminate. Don't want too much competition around for the car challenge that'll be coming soon! Cirie and Aras have a bond, but Cirie's first interest is being a team player so that she herself can go as far as possible, so Aras is likely to be targeted first if Courtney and Shane can restrain themselves from being particularly annoying in the next three days. Danielle has some fine UTR qualities that make her a dark horse who could pull a Danni Boatwright in the right circumstances. Maybe: Aras - F6, Courtney - F5, Terry - F4, Cirie - F3, Shane - F2, Danielle - F1. Shane and Courtney are interchangeable, and Danielle and Terry are interchangeable, depending on challenge results or mood volcanoes. What we'd most like to see is a new quarterback calling some plays. It's more fun when somebody actually decides to play the game than when we just wait to see how the cards fall out. It would be great if my predictions were all wrong because somebody came up with a plan to change the predictable.
