Here's Wanda's review of last week's episode... Double Whammy! Two twists in one night! What are the yin and the yang? The yang - the good - was the great post-merge twist of taking away all the luxuries on Moto island! It would have been a pretty pathetic season of Survivor if we had everybody feasting and sleeping on a comfy mattress down to the end of this game. It was fascinating to see the reactions of the castaways. While some griped and complained, Earl smirked and was delighted with the twist. He's there not just to play a game called Survivor but also to live an experience called Survivor! I liked Earl all the more because of his eagerness to take on the challenge of the real survival life and have an end to the pampering! The yin - the bad - was the consequence of the second twist. Now the concept itself was great -- to have the ten Survivors split randomly onto two teams of five, with the losing team going immediately to TC with no time to talk. It's a fun idea. However, as we might almost expect, with a little contemplation, the results were sad. The Survivors had sorted themselves out, so to speak, and Stacy and Boo were at the bottom of the food chain. Most of us are not likin' Stacy because she was flat-out mean to Dreamz, and we've been ready for her to go for awhile. Then the twist comes, and Michelle ends up leaving instead of Stacy. BUMMER! Twists usually take out better people and save worse ones. The verdict stinks for several reasons. First, Stacy didn't deserve to stay. She's not nice. Second, Michelle did deserve to stay. She was a little UTR, but she had a great spirit. Perhaps we saw that best with the sweet, positive way in which she responded to her unexpected eviction. Early in the show we saw her expecting the seven guys to start turning on each other and the girls to be safe for awhile, but as can be typical of this game, disaster strikes when you least expect it. Michelle also did a nice job of naming the new tribe and painting their flag. But the biggest implication for what comes next is how this impacts Earl and Yao, who are our favs, right? Michelle was integral to their strategy, was Earl's eyes and ears, carrying out his expressed mission for her: "Keep 'em thinkin' that I'm not thinkin'." Earl and Yao have lost a very important partner. Where does that leave them/us? The new purple tribe can be divided into three parts. The majority team is Alex, Ed, and Mookie, with Stacy now on board as Alex's choice to be a loyal fourth. He protected her and axed Michelle at TC. So there's a foursome. The threesome of Earl, Yau, and Michelle is now down to two. In between are Dreamz, Cassandra, and Boo. Dreamz, to everyone's great surprise, played Alex's game, went with Alex's expressed wish, by helping to vote off Michelle when he really didn't like Stacy and had expressed his eagerness to see her gone. That indicates that Dreamz is voting as a number 5 on the Alex team, and that gives them a majority of the nine remainees. If Earl and Yao are to remain viable competitors, they have to secure Cassandra, Boo, and Dreamz to make a majority of five. Dreamz is unhappy with Mookie and Co., because although Mookie spilled the beans to him about their immunity idol, they told him last, so he knows he's not in tight with them, and he doesn't totally trust or like them. The preview shows that just as Alex predicted, Dreamz tells Cassandra about Mookie's I.I., and that tells us (not that we needed to be told) that Dreamz is tighter with Cassandra than with Mookie and Co. So yes -- Earl is smart enough to know that he needs a team of five to control this game, and that means Earl, Yau, Cassandra, Dreamz, and Boo have got to get it together. Every one of them is smart enough to know that they each will go farther if they stick together with each other than if they are low men on Alex's totem pole. I look for these five to put it together and start picking off the other four, starting with Stacy. After that, we could have an immunity idol come into play. Stay tuned.....
