Wacky Wanda Reviews Episode 10

Here's what Wanda sent us this week...

Three big smiley faces and two little frowny faces for Survivor Fiji: Episode 10!

Smiley face # 1:  Was that not the best Tribal Council since the invention of immunity idols?  Did we not LOOOOOOOOOVVVVE seeing Alex confidently and proudly producing the immunity idol, followed by his and Mookie's astonishment that the vote had fallen on neither of them, and their precious immunity idol was essentially wasted!  Sooooooo cool!

Two observations on this action and the game:  First observation, note that Dreamz' story-telling from one camp to the next was the cause the Alex-Mookie-Edgardo demise, and this is the second consecutive TC in which Dreamz has betrayed Mookie.  One thing for sure:  Dreamz is not playing with anything in mind about winning jury votes!  Another thing for sure:  being in the middle in an intra-tribal battle is a very bad place to be.  Apparently Dreamz never saw what happened to Dolly in the second episode of Vanuatu where she thought having the swing vote was sitting in the catbird seat.   Nobody ever really trusts the man in the middle.   Double agent, double jeopardy!

Second observation:  Jeff's explanation that the immunity idol that has been played now goes back into hiding for potential rediscovery gives new meaning to sending someone to Exile Island.  At this point, you don't want to send someone that you dislike to EI, or he/she may be the next one to have the very immunity that secures a spot in the final three.  EI now becomes a place to send your best friend!

Smiley face #2:  Cassandra wins the first individual reward challenge!  This astute sweetheart was at her most Cirie-like best this week, and she proved herself to be a shrewd observer of her tribemates' characters and interactions.  We are hoping to see this gal in an F-3 spot, and she will be a deserving finalist.  She didn't miss one question!  It was interesting that she took Boo rather than Earl along with Yau Man and Dreamz for the reward.  Poor, decent Earl!  But Cassandra was making a good move in terms of strategy, and she is to be commended, as are Earl (for taking it graciously) and Yau Man (for sensing the importance of securing Dreamz and Boo for their alliance).  Good play, Cassandra!   It was great to see you enjoying "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous!"

And the winners in the name-that-Survivor game were:
Who do you trust most?   Earl
Who do you not want to go to dinner with?  Boo
     Who smells worst? Dreamz
    And double winners:
Who do you not want to see again, and who has wasted this opportunity? STACY!
Who has the greatest sense of entitlement, and who mistakenly thinks he's in control?  ALEX!
Who would you most want to be stranded with, and who surprised you with his athletic abilities?  YAU MAN!

Cassandra, Edgardo, and Mookie stayed out of the limelight in this series of questions, but the winners of double recognitions were very notable.  Stacy got a wake-up call and some bitter pills to swallow (ala Courtney, designated most annoying in the Exile Island series).  Alex's wake-up call was underscored in no uncertain terms at tribal council.  And as for Yau-Man ----

Smiley Face # 3:  YAU MAN wins the first individual immunity!   One of my best friends, Kathi, said yesterday that she thinks Yau Man is now her favorite Survivor ever, and it's hard to argue with that!  Yep -- Yau for the million bucks!
(Yul, then Yau -- "Y" are these Asians so endearing?)   Yau hung in there between the two posts just as he has hung in there and saved the day for his tribe in challenge after challenge.  He has surprised us all with his athletic abilities, has charmed us all with witty comments, and has made us all smile with his enthusiastic celebrations along the way, from finding the first immunity idol and hiding a phony one its place to beaming his delight at challenge victories along the way.  Oh yes, we love you, YAU.

And finally, Frowny Face #1:  Edgardo gets booted before Alex.  Of course, this couldn't be helped.  As noted, "there are two ways to defeat an army:  cut off the head, or take away the soldiers."  In this case, good soldier Edgardo, our fav of the NuRavu "Four Horsemen," had to go to ensure the waste of the "HII" -- Hidden Immunity Idol -- and to finalize the demise of that alliance.   Seems as if in every pair this season, the better one goes before the "worser" one --- Anthony before Rocky, Michelle before Stacy, and now Ed before Alex.  Since Alex engineered the demises of Anthony and Michelle, I was really rooting for him to go out before the more innocent, hopeful, and trusting Edgardo.  So sorry, Ed!

Minor Frowny Face #2:  I was disappointed that Earl didn't quickly propose to Dreamz and Boo that they join him, Yau-Man, and Cassandra to make an alliance of five.  Not only did Earl not take the initiative, but when Boo proposed it, Earl was actually hesitant!  What's with that?  Good quote, Earl, "This is like a chess game where you've lost a couple good pieces. "  But if Boo and Dreamz can come on board to replace Michelle, it's almost like getting two pawns to the end of the board and replacing them with a new pair of knights or rooks!  Let's go, man!  Stacy was smart to pre-empt her potential eviction by joining the NuMoto five, but as someone with a less-than-winsome personality and character, she's been spared too long, and I'd like to see her still on the sinking ship...

It would appear that Alex and Mookie are sunk like a torpedoed submarine, but the preview showed their discovery of Yau-Man's immunity idol.  Just what that revelation of knowledge can do for their strategy is completely unclear to me.  At any rate, those who got bored with this season and turned it off early are now missing some great stuff.  As for you and me -- we're staying tuned!  The fun has just begun!

And a personal note:  I got a medal yesterday in the Hyner View 25K Hike-Run.  For the unintiated, a 5K is about 3.1 miles, so a 25K is 15.6 miles.   As for the medal -- they gave one to all of the approximately 400 finishers. <smiles>  It was a tough course with two murderous mountains -- you had to be there to appreciate it -- but I finished.  Took me seven and a half hours.  My friend Kathi (who runs marathons finished two hours before I did) said this was almost the equivalent of a marathon in energy cost, because of the steep hills and rugged side-hill trails.    If you go to www.hikerun.com, you can find my name on the list under the results tab.  To make it easy for yourself, start looking for my name from the bottom of the list!  <smiles>  Oh -- and I got out and hiked another 6 miles or so today.   We had a beautiful weekend here in the Pennsylvania Wilds.  The last snow in my yard melted yesterday.   Spring finally sprung!   Happy Trails!   Wanda
